Weather in St. Petersburg
Saint Petersburg city has a humid continental climate, which is milder than most of Russian cities, due mainly to its proximity to the Baltic Sea. Nevertheless, its climate can be unpredictable. Usually here winters are very cold, with freezing colds and many snowfalls mainly between January and February, when the temperatures reach the minimum annual rates, around 9 ºF (-12 ºC).
The maximum temperatures occurs during summer between June and August, when they reach until 70ºF (21ºC), but almost every time it can feel cold at any time of day. Nevertheless, summer is definitely the best time to visit the city, since the climate is quite pleasant; besides during this time it can witness an amazing phenomenon at night; since due to the northern latitude of the city the sun does not set entirely.
In Saint Petersburg, it rain very often; therefore, it is advisable to carry always an umbrella and a windproof raincoat or jacket, mainly in autumn and summer (between June and November). The annual precipitation rate is 625 mm (24.6 inches) and the annual average relative humidity is around 85%.
